Duration: 9 hours
A unique day trip venturing into the High Atlas Mountains to discover the twelfth century Tin Mal Mosque, a magnificent medieval fortress and one of the only two mosques open to non-Muslims in Morocco.
Rich in history, the mosque, castle-like in appearance, stands on a hill overlooking the rural village of Tin Mal. Abandoned for many years and restored in the 1990’s, it’s impressive history and architecture and that fact that this is off the main tourist radar make this a memorable day trip
The road to Tin Mal from Marrakech passes through inspiring mountain scenery and rural Berber villages, a welcome contrast to the bustling city of Marrakech. You can choose between taking a walk through the surrounding area of Tin Mal with a local guide and stopping for lunch with a local Berber family or on your return drive from the mosque stopping to enjoy the village of Ouirgane where you can have lunch at a fabulous restaurant with a view over the impressive lake of Ouirgane and enjoy a walk in the nature of this area.
